Lindsey Hassel

Lindsey Hassel is a master’s student from Sterling Heights, Michigan. She graduated from Michigan State University in May of 2023 with a degree in Biosystems Engineering and a concentration in Ecosystems Engineering. Lindsey began working with the Stormwater Engineering Group at North Carolina State University in June of 2023. Her research focuses on characterizing runoff from urban permeable surfaces in North Carolina. She is collecting water quality and water quantity data from sites in Raleigh, Durham, and Wilmington. This data will be used to calibrate a model for predicting nitrogen and phosphorus quantities in runoff leaving development sites. Calibrating this model will help policymakers ensure surrounding ecosystems will not be impacted by development. In her spare time, Lindsey enjoys reading thriller novels, listening to true crime podcasts, and painting with watercolors.
