Passive-drawdown Cisterns

The sad truth about cisterns, is that many owners simply do not use the water stored in their tank. By installing a passive drawdown device which slowly releases up to half of the stored water, NC State has found that benefits of cistern use, such as peak flow mitigation, can be preserved. We are currently studying Smart-drawdown devices which sense soil moisture and release cistern water for irrigation purposes during dry conditions.
